My Pets

This page was done for the memory of all the dogs I've had over the years.
The first, Poncho was a spaniel, he was a dog who's owners didn't want or take care of him. My father found him begging around where he worked. My dad loving animals just couldn't leave him there to fend for himself,so home he came.
Poncho was a good dog and protected his family well.
No one could come in our yard without Poncho letting us know.
Poncho died of old age and is buried on top of the hill where is dog house was.
I often feel bad that I didn't spend enough time with him. He will always be a very special dog to me and I will never forget him.

Next came Ben, a Blue Tick Coon Hound. He didn't like the raccoons he prefered to chase deer that's how he came to live with us.
Once again my dad couldn't resist.
He was a good dog and loved my brother best.
We use to love to hear him howl(the way only hounds can).
Ben died of old age, he was a happy dog and lived a good life.

Effie Nellie came next she was a terrier/schnauzer. The runt of the litter she was my mom's dog. Mom picked her out.
She loved McDonald's vanilla milkshakes and an occasional M&M (the peanut kind were her favorite).
I wasn't home when Effie died I was away visiting my aunt. Effie was hit by a car when she tried to cross the road (there were some kids accross the street and she thought I was with them. For a long time I blamed myself for her death because I wasn't there with her.

A week before Effie died a little black miniature poodle showed up at our door. He had been abandoned, someone had thrown him out of a car. From the way he acted it was easy to tell he had been abused. Everytime someone would raise their voice he'd run and hide.
We named him Hobo (Bo for short), it was a name that suited him well. For when he came to us he was a vagabond.
He was a dog that loved to run and play and had his favorite toys.
After he died I kept his collar and his favorite stuffed animal. I still have them to this day.
Hobo was hit by a car when a stray dog came into our yard and he was trying to chase him away.

Hope came to live with us while we still had Hobo. She was a miniature poodle also. Like Hobo she had been abandoned. Mom found out about her and just had to give her a good home. She a a very old dog and we feel that's why someone didn't want her. Hope was also sick, but we loved her anyhow.
Hope died peacefully in her sleep one morning on the bed of blankets my mother made for her.

I know it seems like we've had alot of dogs over the years but each was loved and well taken care of as well as wanted. I can only speak for myself but pets bring so much love to our lives. I know that I will see my much loved pets again at the Rainbow Bridge.

My mom has 2 dogs in her house Pollyanna a golden retriever/husky
mix. I got her for Mom one Mother's day. She is a good dog and loves my mom totally. She is getting older and can't do much of what she use to. But she loves everyone. Sadly we lost Polly in September 2000. She got up and went out one morning, when my mom went to let her back in Polly was acting strange and holding her head at a strange angle.A trip to the vet revieled Polly had, had a stroke. She was doing well and needed a bit of help walking. Dave & Mike built her a ramp so she could still go out and sit in the yard like she always loved to do.That night Polly suffered a massive stroke and we had to have her put to sleep. She was in a lot of pain and it was what was best for her.
Harley belongs to Dave & Kathy. But, Harley loves my mom and follows her everywhere. Where mom is you're bound to see Harley not far behind. This year 2002 however over the last few months Harley has been having seizures. She is now on medicine that seems to be working well.
Update: I am happy to report that in 2001 my brother and sister-in law have added 2 more puppies to the household. Myla & Kylee are black lab/pitbull mix. They are sisters adopted from the humane society. My & Ky were found walking down a very busy highway, where it is believed they were abandoned. They have been a great addition to the house and just love my niece and get along great with Harley. They are the most loving dogs.
I found this poem and thought it approiate to memorialize my much loved pets

The Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
